OK, I’m not an economist or city engineer, but from listening, here is what I’ve heard that should concern everyone in the city. When this started, it was going to be for those living in the New York City boroughs by way of ID. Well, that went over like a lead balloon because the nutty left is against voter ID but wants a person to have a shopper’s ID? You get the point. So now there is no ID required.
Let’s go a step further: the 30% discount off of essentials. What a great idea. So who pays the difference? The taxpayers, of course. No big deal as long as you have a great tax base. People are leaving in droves, and it’s the people with money.
Moving on, what about people coming in, buying and selling in other locations close to all the boroughs? That’s what people do at Costcos. This issue causes sell-outs and limited quantities for the people it was intended for. And last but not least, theft. Theft of the kind where they won’t stop it or charge anyone with a crime. All this will end in disaster, and it is not that I want this to fail; I wish it would work, but fantasy and reality are two different things. All IMO.

During a press conference last week, Mr. Mamdani said that the planned city-run grocery stores will offer a 30 percent discount on “essential” food products. A reporter asked the mayor how officials will prevent people from taking “advantage” of the deal and whether there would be limits on how many discounted food items people can buy. The interim president of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, Jeanny Pak, chimed in to say that the program will be limited to New Yorkers. She said officials are looking at a “library card-esque” form of identification to ensure the program is “focused on everyday New Yorkers.”
