So, I can relate to this for a couple of reasons. I’m 72 and my time is short, given I am a 10-year liver transplant patient. I thank God for the extended life, and I am ready for when my time comes.
I have a major issue with euthanasia, just like I do with abortion. Remember when abortion was strict and limited? I do; I grew up in that women’s freedom era: no bras, abortions, and love the one you’re with. And look where we are now: abortion on demand, including post-birth, and people are ok with that. Now we are on the other spectrum of life, offering euthanasia for the terminally ill, mostly old folks.
My question is, what’s next? If I know at 20 that I have a disease that will show up when I’m 30, which is coming in the future, can this person ask to be euthanized to not go through the pain and suffering of the disease? Sounds stupid, but so does killing a human. Oh, don’t forget costs, which should never be a reason to die.
My gosh, we have lost all humanity when it comes to life, and have kids killing kids and laughing about it, criminals that aren’t satisfied with stealing your money, but they kill you just because. We have a murderer in New York who shot a CEO in the back, and he is receiving rave support, with women wanting to marry him. And to top it off, we have a woman who killed her three kids, who almost got off scot-free because the jurists wanted to set a standard of what, I don’t know. But I do know this jury didn’t follow the facts, except for one person who’s getting decimated for making a decision based on the facts, while the others used ideology or something else, feeling sorry for this woman.
I feel like I’m talking about some scary science fiction movie where life doesn’t matter, only self-fulfillment of whatever one wants, with no controls. I’m not talking about extreme situations, but getting to the point where all this is accepted as normal, which degrades life’s value. Kids learn from example, and these aren’t examples for them to learn from. How did we get here? By leaving God behind. Hopefully, that is starting to change. All IMO.
“New York has euthanized up to 20 patients after a change in the law permitting the practice came into effect last month, a doctor close to the program tells The New York Sun.
From August 5, terminally ill people have been allowed to apply to die, under the state’s new Medical Assistance in Dying program, better known as MAiD.
The New York Department of Health declined to answer questions from the Sun about how many people have been euthanized so far. However a bioethicist involved in New York’s implementation tells the Sun that “about 20 cases, all terminal” have been processed.
Assistant professor of professional practice in bioethics at Columbia University, David Hoffman explained that he knows the figures because his organization, the Completed Life Initiative, “has been providing technical and clinical assistance with the implementation of the law.”
Disability justice activists warn that the New York euthanasia program could pressure people to end their lives.”
