The Democrats were in full support when Jack was stretching or violating the laws, and they are still silent, which means they are complicit. These were known criminal acts, but because it was Trump, anything goes.
The left have totally lost it. There is no such thing as having a conversation; they have turned this into a war. A war of words and morals, along with violence, which all comes from the left. It is their way or the highway with no grey areas, such as no support for Israel, zero nada, or you are out. There are so many other examples, but most of it is socialism: freebies for all. No one has to work.
My disappointment is that the normal, or at least used to be normal, Democrats stay silent. It’s time to band together and get back to basics: number one, every tent has limits. All IMO.
“The report alleges that Smith used his investigation to surveil 16 Republican members of Congress, which it says violated the Constitution’s Speech or Debate Clause. The clause shields lawmakers from being questioned by the Executive Branch over their legislative work and is a key safeguard of the separation of powers between the coequal branches.
After the hearing, Tennessee Republican Sen. Bill Hagerty filed a bar complaint against Smith, citing the “broader harm to our constitutional order, including the chilling effect on legislative communications,” as well as Smith’s “lack of remorse.”
Smith also obtained the financial data of everyday supporters across all 50 states who gave as little as $1 to the president and allied groups, according to the committee’s report, including at least 4,782 personal checks. Though the probe centered on January 6, 2021, the checks Smith obtained spanned from September 2019 to August 2023.
It remains unclear if Smith was attempting to charge Americans, but he told the committee he was conducting a “criminal investigation.”
“Yes, we acquired financial information. As I sit here right now, I cannot recite to you every subpoena we issued… I can tell you why we issued subpoenas, and it was to conduct a criminal investigation,” Smith said Wednesday.
“No matter what you say, there’s no legitimate basis for what you did,” Grassley countered. “Especially since your staff killed an investigation into the Clinton Campaign. Donations to Republican groups wasn’t necessary to your investigation, which is proved out by the fact it wasn’t mentioned in your public report.”
Smith’s probe also reached the press. According to Grassley, Smith obtained the communications of 60 Minutes, The Associated Press, Bloomberg, CBS, CNBC, CNN, Fox News, the Los Angeles Times, the Mark Levin Show, the Media Research Center, NBC, NPR, New York Magazine, Reuters, The Federalist, The Washington Post, The Washington Times and The Wall Street Journal.
Smith also issued hundreds of subpoenas to businesses, Americans and Republican organizations as part of his investigation, according to information Grassley previously released.
The subpoenas included “broad financial data relating to conservative individuals and entities,” “communications with White House advisors, such as Stephen Miller, Dan Scavino, Jared Kushner, Lara Trump and others” and “statistical data and analysis relating to donors and fundraising efforts.” It was in that release from Grassley that it was revealed media companies like CBS, Fox News, Fox Business, Newsmax and Sinclair were targeted. The more extensive list of media organizations subpoenaed was releaved on Wednesday.
“In all, you issued 197 subpoenas to 34 individuals at least, and 163 businesses, and you sought records on at least 430 Republican individuals and entities,” Cruz said on Wednesday. “If you look at the list, there is one thing that is consistent. Every name on it is a Republican.”
