The inner cities need to spend this money to upgrade their schools by hiring new teachers and forming a new Union focused on working conditions rather than ideologies. The Teachers’ unions have destroyed our inner city schools, especially in Chicago, where they elected the Mayor who is destroying the city. In fact, the Chicago Bears have moved out of the state thanks to progressives.
Reparations are nothing but a political point to get someone elected. Where do you draw the line? Is this for blacks only? What about the Chinese brought in to build the railroads? Or the Irish brought over for labor, who, back in the day, had no worker protection laws. We need to stop being individuals and get back to being a collective group of Americans who are red, white, and blue. Divide and conquer is the tactic of the progressives. All IMO.
“In 2019, Evanston became the first city in America to pass a reparations plan. The program offers $25,000 payments to black residents and descendants of black residents who lived at Evanston between 1919 and 1969. But the future of the program is in doubt. In 2024, Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit, arguing that the program relies on race as an eligibility criterion, which it says violates the Fourteenth Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause.
On Tuesday, the Justice Department filed a motion to intervene in the lawsuit. “Under the pretext of paying reparations for events more than 100 years ago, the City of Evanston has chosen to distribute millions of dollars in cash and housing benefits to people because of the color of their skin or the color of the skin of their parents, grandparents, or great grandparents,” the head of the Justice Department’s civil rights division, Harmeet Dhillon, said in a statement.
Ms. Dhillon said that there are “sound ways for a city to remedy past discrimination,” but that “handing out money based on race” is “race discrimination, pure and simple.”
“We are happy that the United States is following our lead and welcome it as an ally in this historic lawsuit against a woke, racist program,” said the president of Judicial Watch, Tom Fitton.”
