Ok, so this is insane if you really think about it, even though the intention is good. So, a couple of concerns:
Do these workers pay taxes? No, the pimp gets the cash, and they don’t pay taxes either.
What about the kids of these sex workers? They deserve assistance, or maybe not, given I don’t know what a worker’s take-home pay is.
What about a program to take the sex workers away from their pimps?
What about the pimps? Why are they not arrested and investigated?
Could someone needing healthcare become a temporary sex worker to get medical assistance? That would be sad, but it could be a reality.
What about all the other workers in New York without health insurance? Are they not constituents? The progressives decide the agenda, and who gets what, and that is how we get all the fraud we have going on. Has anyone researched where this money is going? Or are people getting rich off taxpayers, like all the other programs under investigation throughout our country? Free health care draws or keeps sex workers in the gutter and does nothing to resolve the issue. Just like free drugs and needles for those addicted. We need real programs with solutions, not a gloss over of the problem for political reasons only. All IMO.
“In 2023, the state’s health department awarded $1 million in public funding to two organizations to provide health services for individuals involved in sex work. According to a report by the New York Post, the initiative has now been extended through June 2028 with an additional $1.5 million in funding amounting to $2.5 million total.
Under the program, sex workers in New York City and Buffalo are eligible to receive primary medical care, sexual health services, behavioral health treatment, and dental care. The funding is administered through the Department of Health’s AIDS Institute. The organizations selected to provide services, Callen-Lorde and EHS Inc./Evergreen Health, will each receive annual payments of $250,000 to operate the program.
“The lengths by which New York Democrats will cater to the far left has no greater example then Gov. Hochul funding healthcare for hookers to the tune of millions while actual frontline healthcare workers… live on food stamps,” said Republican state Assemblyman Michael Novakhov.”
