This is absolutely crazy, about as crazy as it gets. California wants to stop journalists from doing their job of uncovering fraud and other abuses by the government or corporations. Some of the greatest stories come from real journalists, and stopping them is pure censorship to protect criminals. Remember Watergate? Remember the insane asylums, charity fund abuses, or even Epstein?
What’s next if this is legalized in California? Do the people of California really want this legislation, which could let fraud run into the billions? I don’t think so, but then this is California, so anything is possible. All IMO.
“FrontPage Magazine’s Daniel Greenfield reported today on a piece of newly proposed legislation (AB 2624) that would criminalize any sort of investigative journalism in California, particularly as it pertains to “persons…in the immigrant community….”
Read: Don’t touch our Somalis, or anyone else running the same grifts. (We’re apparently back on the “transparency is a bad thing” train.)
If you do, you’re guilty of “harassment,” and the harassed is entitled to substantial financial compensation through a court of law—the bill reads the awarded amount can be “up to a maximum of three times the actual damages” and never less than $4,000.
Most ironic is that the bill’s name is “Privacy for immigration support services providers.” Privacy? Since when do Democrats ever care about privacy? I can think of one: the “privacy” to kill an in-utero child without any nosey outsiders asserting that murder is wrong.
Investigative journalism, is in effect, criminalized. Well, once Gavin Newsom signs the bill, after it undoubtedly passes through the state legislature, it will be. At one point, Newsom’s press office even promoted additional state protections for the Somalis (and other third-worlders running suspicious, taxpayer-funded businesses), saying this: “Pro-tip: Daycares aren’t content farms. If you show up demanding access to film children, don’t be surprised when the cops show up.”
